Polk County Fire District No.1 goes into a burn ban during periods of seasonally dry conditions, typically beginning sometime in June and ending at some point in October. The burn ban is considered in accordance with the Polk County Fire Defense Board and the Oregon Department of Forestry.
Outside of the District’s burn ban, restrictions on burning are applied by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
The city of Monmouth does not permit backyard burning.
Otherwise, backyard burning is allowed based upon the air quality conditions set by DEQ between October 1st – December 15th and again from March 1st – June 15th. On any given day you can find out the DEQ restrictions on backyard burning by calling our Burn Line at 503-838-2020.
Agricultural burning may be allowed when there is no burn ban in place.
