Burn Info

All burning is subject to the requirement of your local jurisdiction. Each day, DEQ analyzes air quality and weather data to dertermine if ventilation is sufficient to allow open burning in the Willamette Valley, and notifies the State Fire Marshall. The Fire Marshall forwards this information to all fire distrcits in the valley.

Immediately call 911 to report threatening fires.   The link below will give you some helpful information.

Burning Information is Updated Every Morning – call (503) 838-2020

Always call the Fire District’s burning information line before you burn. Open burning violations can result in penalties of up to $10,000 per day. Fires must be attended at all times until completely burned out or extinguished.

Contact DEQ to report smoke complaints at (888)-997-7888. D.E.Q. has the authority under state law to prohibit open burning anywhere in the state on a day to day basis.

The following materials are prohibited from being burned:

  • Rubber products
  • Tires; Plastic
  • Wet Garbage
  • Petroleum & petroleum-treated materials
  • Asphalt or industrial waste
  • Any material that creates dense smoke or noxious odors.

WARNING: GASOLINE AND OTHER FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS ARE VERY VOLATILE AND DANGEROUS. DO NOT USE FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS TO START YOUR FIRE!
